I think that if the aim is success that could diminish the chances,
if the aim is to do something original, peculiar, innovative,
or better yet to pursue our own original ideas than the odds for
success might increase.
Of course being in a good environment for our field is also important.

Usually to be successful, it takes a lot of effort. Of course, luck and timing can be critical to success as well.
