American English is a lot like Latin American Spanish
With USA being first settled by the English 400 years ago, there has been plenty of time for the two to become distinct.
Structure of syntax is almost identical, just like Spanish from Spain and Spanish from Latin America, which means that apart from different variations of spelling, pronounciation, and use of words from other languages, a native speaker of English from England will not find it too difficult to become proficient in English from the US and vice versa.
Just as you Moni, would not find it difficult to speak like a person from Spain, with a little practice. :-)

Kia Kaha (don't give up) literally it means "ever be strong"
Not English, but almost all New Zealanders will know what it means and that is the wonderful thing about a language... it keeps growing and changing and adopting new words and phrases.

So kia kaha Moni,
cuidate
mark :-)
