I have been trying to learn turkish for more than a year in different sites of the net, I wish you good luck, but in my experience, you have to pay for a course that allows you to start conversation. You can make great friends in Turkey, but that would not help you to improve if you do not know the basics so you can excersice with them. Turkish is totally different to our occidental languages, it is necesary to take a course first, in my oppinion.
