Why aren't there group (multi-user) chat rooms for major languages?

I keep getting invitations to be friends, but most of the people have blank profiles, so I know nothing about what they like or do. If there were group chat rooms we could meet first and then decide to be friends (like in real life). Right now, we become friends, then decide if we have anything to say - if not, we cancel? Group (multi-user) chat rooms would solve this problem (maybe there is a group chat room somewhere and I just can't find it?)
