As an English teacher it's best to use all 3 as part of your teaching. The immersion method where you only speak in the langauge you are teaching is effective for short periods as well. eg go for a nature walk and only speak in English, French etc.

Well, I think the most effective way to learn English is to listen, to speak, to read and write VOA News. and I do it like this every day. it helps a lot. you are really something, you can speak several languages. I like French, but I can't afford education in Franc. is it ok to study in Tunisia?

3./for begginers i think it is better to avoid grammar as much as you can and to focus on vocabulary, then it will be easier for the brain to link between known words to understand grammar.
listening is very important combined with memicry and pictures will stimulate the visual memory. and create a kind of visual check-point for each word in the brain..
thinks for the question and thinks for you contributions to correct mine

I think a combination between the first and the second method would be good but If I had to choose only one I would go for the Direct/Series method

First and second. Grammar is an important aspect of a language. I've seen lots of people who think they're good at English but their grammar is totally fubar. If you need an indication of how weird English without grammar rules sounds, just use google translate and you'll know what I mean.
