A few quetions about souvenirs :D

First of all - I bought this little wooden, painted doll /it looks like a Russian girl wearing a national outfit of some sorts ^.^'/ How are such dolls called ? I know there's a name for them 'cause the vendour said it, but I didn't quite catch it ^.^''
Second, I noticed there are a lot of souvenirs with cats /personally bought a scarf with such a pattern ;)) / Question : why ? Is there a story behind this ? And what about Che Бурашка ?!? :))
Thank you !

1) The little wooden dolls are матрёшки (in the singular - матрёшка (matryoshka).
2) Чебурашка (Cheburashka) isn't a cat. It is the non-existent invented book character like swedish Karlsson. There is the russian fairy tale in which Cheburashka and the Crocodile named Gena are the positive heroes and the old angry lady Chapoklyak always tries to disturb them to make good deeds. Cheburashka became popular in Russia afterwards he had become a talisman of the Russian sportsmen in the Olympic Games in Turin.
Che бурашка on the Russian souvenirs is a joke which is descended from Che Guevara. I don’t know who invented that. It’s just a meaningless fun ‘cause of the resembled spelling in the beginning. These characters have nothing in common.
