"Sola" means only so ok what Beta said but also sole (of a shoe)

But, just for curiosity, in common usage (above all in Rome and in the center of italy) "la sola" is for Truffa, imbroglio that means the fraud, the swindle...
So "sei una sola!" means you're a swindle!
or "la sola che m'hai tirato" literaly is for the sole (of shoes) that you have thrown to me but means the swindle you swindled (ripped-off) me!

In italiano le scarpe hanno la suola non la sola.
Se vogliamo fare un gioco di parole possiamo dire che: prende una sola chi compra le scarpe senza suola! (vuol dire che prende una fregatura chi compera le scarpe senza la parte della scarpa che poggia sul terreno.
In Italian is called SUOLA (with the "u") and not SOLA the part of the shoes that touch the floor.
Then a joke with the words suola and sola.....

Ciao gianni, grazie per la precisazione e l'esempio veramente calzante :-))!
Ti assicuro però che anche lo Zingarelli porta Sola anche senza U come sinonimo di suola, deriva dal latino sola, nt. pl. di solum ‘suolo’, con sovrapposizione di solea ‘sandalo, suola’ :)
Ma Anya ancora non ci ha detto se voleva sapere di "una sola" o di una fregatura! :)
