That is strange, I don't know much about brazilian culture, but from what I know brazilian men don't normally kiss each other, however it's not as unlikely as for americans. I think brazilans would only do that on occasions, so they might've been really happy about scoring, but it's not likely.
By the way, when studying american culture, you have to remember that americans don't care much what others think of them and of what they do, so they act without thinking how others will react, and they don't care what others do. I'm not sure if the same is true for brazilians or not...
