why are there two verbs for to be in spanish ?

Hi.

I will try to tell you. First of all, the two verbs are
SER and ESTAR.

SER is used when to tell about a permanent state
about something, like:

The car is green. - El coche es verde.

ESTAR is used to ask how somebody feels or in
order to indicate a temporary state, like:

How are you? - ¿Cómo estás?
It's cold. - Está frío.

Conjugations on the verbs are like this:

SER ESTAR
yo soy estoy
tú eres estás
él/ella es está
nosotros somos estamos
vosotros sois estáis
ellos/ellas son están
