at first i really wanted to have someone who can teach me chinese, regardless of where she/he stays and whatever method of teaching we will be dealing (it could be an online teaching), but due to my work, i wasn't able to do that. in the meantime, i'm learning by myself, more often times with the help from my chinese friends... although i know that it's far better to learn with somebody guiding you - it's still the best i guess.

I bought a chinese book and learning from it. i know how to pronounce most of mandarin but speaking it in the right tone.......so imperfect!

One more thing, I haven't practiced talking to a chinese yet. although there's a lot of chinese here in our country but it seems i don't have enough confidence to crack a conversation - of course we ended talking in english.

If i could have a chance to study chinese from a good teacher, I will.....

I think it's much better if we have a language teacher to teach us and practice with us in our learning process, but if we don't have one, then we can still study well by means of many ways, like watching movies, reading news, take online classes, etc. Ask yourself questions and try to answer them just like you are talking with someone. If you are unable to answer, you check the book or ask someone, you can still make progress.

l think that if you have good write guides, you can lern a lot, but any how you need some one who can tell you when you do something wrong. also, you need to educate your ear, so you can understand any person, not matter the language he/she talks (accent), it means that you need partners to practice, and tell you what mistakes you are doing.

paying a teacher gives me a neccesity to learn, and a teacher keeps me focused but if it is in a group i probably will not learn at my own pace so i think anyway a language teacher is better

An adult is usually self motivated unless they are very lazy and must have internet access. You need to see the teacher pronounce the words and correct you instantly if you make a mistake.

In my opinion, learning a language is not something simple, at lease, for me. As for the beginners, we somehow need someone to get things started for us. We need someone who is an expert in that language, a teacher to guilde us at the beginning. That will really make the language-learning process faster and more effective. After we have mastered the basic of the language, we can think of dismissing the teacher and studying that language by ourselves...Hehe. Anyway, having somebody beside you when you are learning is 10 times better than to learn alone. (That's what i think)

I'll study alone first,especially when I study words , sentences .but if I have some problems ,I'll ask the language teacher.Book is the best teacher, study alone can let you know many things,not only the knowleage from the book,but also can rise your abilility of study.but I have to say ,teachers are also very important,especially in the speaking.

well, at first need a good teacher coz u need to learn the learning skills and u know, beginning is always very hard, but then u can learn by yourself after u understand these skills ...
