Neal sounds right again. This term might be a more seamy version of the term "stage name" - used by performers in order to have a more attractive name with better "sound" or easier pronunciation, to obscure the performer's identity or perhaps also to keep personal information from their fans.

I'm guessing here, because your question have not given us much to work with. A person who works as a 'hostess' in a sleazy club would not want to use their real name, so they might use a false name (a stripper name) to hide their real identity.
