If you love man you it does not matter is he nice or not. You do not loot at this. But when people meet they always try to attract each other and therefore they want to look nicer. But there is, of course, such category of people who do not care is person good-looking or not. They see something special in him and they want to be with him, to communicate, to walk, to go in different celebrations etc. It depends on men,of course. Each has different character and each is able to answer on your question differently. So, it is big subject of discuss, I think. People always like to discuss it.

From what I know of history, looks have always played a big role in peoples lives, for better or worse. And FOOD. Food was seen as a sigh of health. So hundreds of years ago and still in some places in the world, the fatter or prettier a woman is, means she is healthy and wealthy.

Advancement because of looks depend on the job. If he/she is a engineer, i really dont think so. But for a model or celebrity, yes.

I think human beings are born to love beautiful things. Boys like pretty girls and girls like handsome boys. It is so natuaral and reasonable. There's no need to blame others for that, for its their choice and freedom. But as to myself, appearance matters in the first place but personality values most in choosing a friend, boyfriend and evern spouse finally.　I believe in 相由心生。Leading a beautiful life has a lot to do with your attitude。 I don't think people with attractive face are bound to lead corlouful life.
