Giving thumbs up and down not only for answers but also for good questions? Is that a good idea?

Resolved questions

I have been reading, in italki, excellent questions, good questions, not so good questions and, sometimes, also inappropriate and offensive questions.
About the answers we can give thumbs up or thumbs down. And that is good, I think.
But, why we not have the same system for the questions?
Could you share your ideas about that issue?
Maybe the Italki team would like to know and we , the user, will be benefited.

Thanks for your message João. Here is the reason why I think it won't work:

"Like you said, the current thumbs down/thumbs up system is already fairly problematic due to a specific group of people manipulating this system. My guess is that they will just roam the answer section and downvote any question that doesn't suit their personal/religious agenda. Furthermore, what exactly do you want to achieve with thumbs up/thumbs down? Right now you can only see that someone has been given many thumbs down, but the post is still available. One could basically shout "Heil Hitler" and the post will never be removed. Perhaps it should be more like youtube where -6 means that the comment will be hidden."

Bad idea. They just need to get more moderators so inappropriate questions can be removed.

I agree with harregarre too; proper active moderation would be better. It is a little strange also that you can vote for yourself!

I had originally thought Joao's suggestion was a good one, but changed my mind when I read Harregarre's explanation. He makes some very excellent points, things I had not considered. And as Neal said, proper active moderation would be better. I wish there were some way to stop people from posting their preprinted standard responses to questions even when they are not germane to the question, for the apparent sole purpose of increasing their stats and becoming crowned Italki Queen.
