Hi Sue, when I was 16 I became vegetarian because I didn't like the way animals are treated in the 'meat industry'. I remained a vegetarian until I was 30, when I started eating fish because I felt that it was hard (= inconvenient) to get enough good protein otherwise. I still only eat fish, but I have to say I cannot justify the reasons why on moral grounds. In fact, you could argue that eating fish is as environmentally disastrous as eating beef (cattle create a lot of methane and use up vast areas of land that could be more productive if used for arable farming; industrial scale fishing is having a seriously bad effect on ocean biodiversity amongst other things). I guess my justification for being <mostly> vegetarian is that I've been doing it for so long the idea of eating chicken, beef, pork or other animals doesn't appeal to me.
