I agree with Lee, your essay must have an introduction, body paragraphs and a conclusion. If you are writing an academic essay then I would suggest following these guidelines.
1. Pre-write: choose a topic - narrow your topic - think about your audience - start brainstorming ideas - group similar ideas together.
2. First draft: each body paragraph should discuss (in detail) one main idea - start each paragraph with a topic sentence (this is a sentence which tells the reader what you will discuss in this paragraph - for example - living on campus has more advantages than disadvantages) - write your paragraphs.
3. Edit: ask a friend / peer to read your essay to make sure that each paragraph has a natural flow - ask them to tell you about some weak areas of your essay and some strong points.
4. Re-write: focus on spelling and grammar - make sure your paragraphs all relate to the topic

I hope that helps you.

The best idea that I was taught was to write an essay and then read it and criticise my own essay in the same way my teacher or examiner would! A good essay should have an introduction, a middle section and a conclusion. Try to make your essay "flow" and easy to read and make sure it is not random with unorganised thoughts - to do that you will need to plan your essay before you start to write it. Hope this helps! Good luck!

It depends what sort of essay you have to write. There are different tips for the following essays; creative, informative, argumentative/persuasive. However you must brainstorm your topic first or create a mindmap. Overall, proof reading & editing are most important. Also don't forget to use the spell check function on your computer.Make sure that your paragraphs flow easily by using linking words eg futhermore, however, similarly, comparitively, on the otherhand etc. In your concluding paragraph never write, 'in conclusion' as that is stating the obvious. Include a bibliography on the last page if you consulted any sources.
