which kind of terms is more frequently used in Anatomy terminology?

i am learning human anatomy now here in china, however, there are mainly two kind of medical terms i come across in our textbooks.

such as:

inferior nuchal line = linea nuchae inferior,
supra clavicular lymphnodes = Nodi lymphatici supraclaviculares,
inferior thyroid artery = A. thyroidea inferior

etc..

to me the former ones look more like english, and the latter ones seems more like Latin or something as it does not follow regular english grammar.

would some body be kind enough to tell me which kind of them are more frequently used internationally, or which of them are more popular in english textbooks used outside of china? should i know both of them, or just the former ones would be enough, as i am planing to further my education in med. schools overseas?

Yes, the latter terms are Latin. These terms are used in many anatomy textbooks, with the English terms used as well. Lately in the US very few students study Latin before going to medical school, so if you do not know that language you will not be at all different from most other students. Many other medical terms have Greek roots, and some medical dictionaries list the Greek words from which the terms are derived. But even fewer US students study classical Greek. I believe you will not be at a disadvantage if you study medicine in the US if you know neither of these languages. Concentrate upon English.

most terms come from latin, but i don´t think it´s worth learning latin for that reason- just study english, that will b enough... anyway you`ll have to memorize most names by heart- good luck
