A block is usually the distance between two streets.
I've counted about 13 different words that all mean street or road; there is no real difference between them, except that a street is generally in a developed area and a road is more in a rural area; but it's not incorrect to use "road" in a developed place, except for when calling it by its name (if it's named, for example, Main Street, you wouldn't use "road" here; unless you wanted to caution someone from oncoming traffic "Stay out of the road", or something; you could also use street there too.)
