Yo can use "skateboard" in Spanish but it's better to say "monopatín". The skaters call to the skateboard "tabla" in an informal way.

well, skate = patin, pantinaje (but of course it includes in line skate and ice skate as well as in english
so skateboard = patineta. So in spanish you can't just say skateboarder in a single word. Some people, specially in mexico call us patinetos or patineteros, but nobody likes it skater will do better, since everybody in the scene will call you and himself that. don't listen to mafer the second one is wrong. Oui oui, the first guy got it right, the skatos ( skateboarders) call their skateboards "tabla" and say "vamos a tablear" to say "let's skate" ; - What where you doing? - Tableando (it's not a verb but everybody use it that way)

"Patineta", or "patinete", is not a skateboard. "Monopatín" is the right word.
A "Patinete" is a scooter.
