Hi, I am not sure where you read the news. But as far as I know, internet addiction is not a crime in China and most parents would send their kids with those problems to a camp where some teachers and education expert would try to change the bad habit. And in China, addiction to online games has caused some social problems. There are some articles about students killing others or robbing others just to get the money to go to Internet Cafe. If those internet addicits break the law, the government will definitely give them some punishment (If they are older than 18.)

Have a look at this article. It mentions an internet addict who committed a burglary in China receiving the death penalty. http://www.china.org.cn/english/China/165299.htm
