What is the difference between 时间 and 时候?

时间 是一个描述事件过程长短的类别名词. Example：“ 你需要多长时间？”

时候 这是两种常用的表达方式：
1.某事发生的时间，Example：“ 在我很小的时候...”
2.事情、过程或情况经过的时间，Example：“ 你什么时候能回家来？”

时间mean time，the definition of time is 一切宏观物质状态的变化过程都具有持续性和不可逆性，此性质是它们共同的属性，而此连续事件的度量称为时间。
时候mean fonde or moment。

“时候”是一个不能独立使用的名词（单独充当句子成分），要和其他成分（主要是动词性的）配合组成一个偏正短语，通常表达一个时间点。
“时间”是个能独立使用的名词，通常表达时间段，指称客观世界中的时间世界（一维世界），“长短”是其基本属性。
Being Chinese, we know when to use"时间" and when to use "时候",and when can use both of them.But it's hard for foreigners to distinguish them,don't worry about that.

Usually we use the 时间 as a noun,we use it to ask "what time is it?现在是什么时间？Most of the time ,it present a time recently.contrastly “时候”is used to ask something occurred in the relatively long period of time .just like "when do you like to go shopping?"你想什么时候去购物？"
