In my years of teaching in China, I've found that many students inevitably ask me questions about the Bible. Often it is because their Chinese teachers have said that most Westerners are Christians (perhaps a dubious claim), and that understanding the Bible will help them to better understand Western culture (it will). Whether its because of a personal interest in the content or an academic interest in understanding Western culture, I'm willing to teach.
This course will begin with some general knowledge about the Christian Bible and Christianity before moving onto some of the main concepts presented in the Christian Bible. We will study specific passages and dig into the meaning of them. Alternatively, if you have specific questions you would like me to answer, I will do my best to answer them.
The minimum fee I can charge on italki is $8, so that's what I am charging for this course.
I speak an Intermediate level of Chinese, so if necessary, I can use that on occasion to help Chinese students, but I have found that generally immersion is the most helpful method of improving your spoken English, so I try to limit second-language usage in the class unless absolutely necessary.
You will need to have access to an English-language Bible, ideally with parallel translations in your mother language. I would recommend a print version, but they are also easy to find on the Internet. Here are a couple of good resources: or http://www.biblegateway.com/ (for English and other languages) and http://www.biblica.com/bibles/ccb/ (English and Chinese) or http://www.o-bible.com/ (for Chinese).
