Are our Kids Tough Enough : UK vs Chinese Education

I posted this a few days ago as a comment on another discussion  [Caroline Xu http://www.italki.com/discussion/99918], but I think it's worth a run in its own right.

The BBC has been broadcasting a 3-part documentary about a group of 5 Chinese teachers who came to teach at a school in England for a month.

It is a fascinating insight in to the differences between the British and Chinese education systems, and also between UK and Chinese society. The school at which this took place is in a prosperous small country town outside London, so the teachers did not experience any of the problems that they would encounter in many city schools. However, they still found it challenging.

What are your conclusions ?

@ Spangola :  No, they are Year 9 in secondary school - 13-14 years old.  What surprised me, among many other things, was how articulate these children were, quite different from the city kids with whom I am more familiar.

Should have sent them to the worst school in the UK, would have been a lot more entertaining. Were they sent to a primary school? The kids look very young in the photos.

Hi Adrian, thank you for bringing this topic up.

As I value education very much and I have been working in the ecucation systems both in China and Australia, I was attracted by the program straight away.

Education is really a broad and very deep topic as it is. To put it in short I think the combination of the two would be a better system for kids and for the society.
