Any good children's books or tv shows to watch?

I'm in search of children's books or tv shows in Japanese that would help me with my reading and comprehension. I want to pick up my reading speed in hiragana, and learn a few extra words here and there that my college isn't providing me. I'm just starting katakana in my class. If you know of any books or shows, please let me know! :)

Ouch, I didn't know it was possible to get the tales ordered by difficulty. Much better that way.

This is actually the same one Aficionado had recommended. I think that web-site is good, too.

They have many Japanese and world fairy tales/folktales in audio with scripts.

From the page above, you will be able to choose the stories out of seven degrees of difficulty; those are categolized like as followed:

・ようちえん (for kindergarden kids):  stories are told in plain wordings and scripts are written only with Hiragana.

・しょうがく1ねんせい (for 1st grade pupils): scripts are written in Hiragana and Katakana, but no Kanji.

・しょうがく2ねんせい (for 2nd grade pulils): scripts are wrtten in Kana and Kanji which 1st grade pupiles have learned.

・しょうがく3・4・5・6ねんせい: A story from the higher grade contains the larger vocabulary/wording and the more Kanjis.

How about <em>singing</em> the very famous "Very Hungry Catapiller" in Japanese? My students loved it! Very catchy tune as well. ---> http://www.nihongonz.com/stories-in-japanese.html
