Health situation of Myriem Mehdi deteriorated after a full month of hunger strike due to her dismissal from the English company British Gas. The medical staff said they have advised her to stop and abandon immediately the strike, however she refused, thing which resulted more health complications.

 

The same medical team told Echorouk in Mustafa Pasha Hospital; “Myriem Mehdi insists on continuing hunger strike thing which has become a threat to her life. She suffered a number of chronic diseases including Anaemia, as she lost 50 percent of her weight, and warts which had surrounded her mouth moved to the head and neck; she completely lost the ability to talk”.

 

The medical team advised the prevention of visiting her in her place of strike, in the trade unions house, where she must be isolated in a single room because her immune system has become very weak.

 

“The dangerous developments that began to occur on her health showed that the chronic diseases are hunting Myriem Mehdi and may remain during her lifetime if she did not back down on strike”.

 

The National Committee for Supporting Algerian Workers met on Monday, January 11, in order to protest outside the headquarters of the Ministry of Labour and Social Security to ensure full treatment of Myriem Mehdi before it is too late.

 

The protestors condemned the silence of the ministry towards Myriem’s situation, as well as the silence of the British company “British Gas” despite the British embassy promised a solution that satisfies her and stop the strike.
