My student missed a session but said that I was the one who missed. However, I even left a message here in italki that date and time saying that I was present and waiting. I suspect that the student did not have the correct time zone set up in italki. I wrote the italki team about it, but it has not been resolved yet; meanwhile, it appears as a negative on my record. How concerned should I be about this and how can I rectify it? Thanks in advance.
I think it's too late to be concerned; you can't do anything about it now so forget about that; I almost always let the student have their money back whenever there is an issue made. Actually, your dialogs with students should be happening on Skype and not on italki. My Skype: brian.madden4
Sometimes Skype is buggy; sometimes it doesn't work at all; sometimes I appear offline when I am not offline. I have some cool attachments for Skype I will share; they make teaching and learning on Skype a better experience. Yes, there could have been a mix up in time zones: http://www.timeanddate.com/
I always wait on Skype and send the student an IM on Skype and put "waiting for a student" on my stutus. The great thing about Skype is that there is a record kept.
Good luck!
Thanks for your comments. I did leave messages in Skype as well but since the student was not on, it was no use since you both have to be on at the same time for the message to actually go through.
Thanks again!
That sucks that you would get a negative on your record. Seems like there should be a way for you to challenge that. That said, I wouldn't worry about it too much. Your record speaks for itself, and it says a lot about your integrity that you are so concerned. Good luck, and hope you can get it corrected.
