What is stopping you from going to Korea?

For me:

Lack of support, not knowing the language well,

discouragment from people who believe Korea is racist.

Negative comments on my interest in Korea.

How about you?

You are funny! Hi, i am brazilian girl. My real name is Jessica. Your country is very interesting for foreigners. And the Korean language is an obstacle too big for the pronunciation, culture and customs are very different in my country. I want go to Korea someday!

Lack of support, not knowing the language well,

- In Korea, almost people is at least bilingual. Don't worry for speaking Korean well.

discouragment from people who believe Korea is racist.

- Many foreigner live in Korea recently. So almost Korean don't have a racism. But some older people has wrong thoughts. Don't worry for that.

Yeah, I agree. I do want to at least understand a lot of Korean

so I can really get into conversations and build relationships.

I doubt Korea is really that racist too. But everywhere I've been

I'd say there's always that ONE person who decides to be ignorant.

So if I ever come across it, it's going to be no surprise. I mean,

I get a little bit of racism pretty much everywhere. It's worse on

cruses and stuff, but I always find a lot of good people to hang with.

So I doubt iracism is every going to be bad or anything. But I do expect a little bit.

I just don't want to hold unreal expectations.

But Thanks for the Encouragement.

xoxoxo

Greetings Everyone!!!

I am currently in Korea and I must agree to @Mr. Sim...Koreans are very hospitable to foreigners like me. Even those who really don't speak English at all are very warm and caring just by their actions. Many seems to look RACIST or SNOBS because they don't talk at all...Why?! They are afraid to speak because others just speak pure Korean...Same like we are afraid to speak to them at first, they feel the same way too. It's better to keep silent than say the wrong words,I guess.Still, they are NOT RACIST! BTW, I am MARRIED to a KOREAN.He accepts my culture so do I.

For me it's being so young, not having enough money, and not being able to speak Korean well enough =_= I still try to earn the language and culture as much as possible though.

What is currently stopping me is that I'm trying to find a public school, that would be interested in hiring me for 1 year as a English teacher. Even though i am not a native speaker i consider myself very good in the spoken language and can compete on par with native speakers. Just have to get around the blasted law, that you have to be a native speaker.

Oh yeah I also have 15 months left of my education and then i hold a Bacherlor's degree in English and will be a certified teacher.

Congraulations!

Momoaikata,

My reasons are exactly the same except for the lack of support one; my family and friends do support my going there. I don't know the language at all except introducing myself and some words I learned from dramas. I have also had discouragement from people who believe the racism in Korea. Also, people are very negative about my interests in Korea saying it's weird.
