There are thousands of ghost stories.  Although most are made up or just bad dreams that people think are real, it must be considered how many stories there are.  If only one of these ghost stories is true (which is likely), it proves there's something after this life.  Just my opinion.

Hi in answer to you question no we will not be born in another place but dependent on how we live our life we will be sent by god into hevean or hell or purgatory.

As for the body it will decay but at the end of the world it will be joined to our souls and be remade with specal powers such as being able to pass through walls and never getting sick.Smile

Nobody knows! No one was back here or even don't call and don't tell about next to death. Maybe there is nothing. xD

I wouldn't believe anyone who is telling that she or he knows what will be after death. But I also wouldn't believe anyone who's telling that there is nothing at all after death. So many people are saying things like "of course there is nothing after death, human beings are just random mutations of evolution, the soul/psyche/ego just are random products of electricitiy in your brain..." without thinking about it. Look at the people who are saying things like that. Do they treat there loved ones like random mutations? Why do they think there's value in people and in things when everything and anything is just random and could be replaced by other matter (because they are telling you that's what we were: random mutation of random matter).

[Had to make 2 parts, the text was too long]

No. Modern science tells you that it's impossible to explain psyche or consciousness by electric activity of the brain. Science tells us: we need a brain and the processes in the brain to experince the consciousness we know as our ego, but that does NOT mean that the electricity of the brain can be the reason for consciousness [take a look at "The self and it's brain" by Popper & Eccles]. So, when brain and consciousness are not the same, and if cosciousness is NOT produced by the brain (and that's the state of science!), there is no reason to believe that consciousness will end with the end of brain. So all in all my believe is: death is not the end, but no-one knows what will be after death. But we'll see... Smile

So long,

Bernd

No one has ever /proved/ that consciousness is not produced by the brain.

The fact that modern science can't explain something, doesn't mean that it can't be explained. We'll just need more time. Otherwise, we should still believe that lightning is produced by Zeus because there was a time where "modern science" wasn't able to explain that.

This is what 8 neuroscientists wrote about consciousness in "Human Brain Function", 2004:

[see other post]

"We have no idea how consciousness emerges from the physical activity of the brain and we do not know whether consciousness can emerge from non-biological systems, such as computers... At this point the reader will expect to find a careful and precise definition of consciousness. You will be disappointed. Consciousness has not yet become a scientific term that can be defined in this way. Currently we all use the term consciousness in many different and often ambiguous ways. Precise definitions of different aspects of consciousness will emerge ... but to make precise definitions at this stage is premature."

So science can't even talk about consciousness for the time being.

Please don't confuse science with phylosophy.

Sorry Max, but that's typical for our times.

1) Now I have to proof that it isn't true that electricity produces consciousness? I think the pople who claim that have to proove the opposite.

2) Scientific explanation??? RANDOM mutatation, SOMEHOW (no-one knows how and why) cosciousness emerges our of electricity, no explanation of processes, no descreption, no theory... but science can show that...?

The atmosphere is similar to medieval times: if someone doubts the paradigma, he must have deficits in education. No, doubt is scientific.

So long,

Bernd

You said "Science tells us that...". I simply pointed out that science doesn't tell us that. Science is still looking for answers so science isn't telling us much about consciousness and how the brain works.

Okay, misunderstanding. Maybe a problem of language, I wasn't expressing myself clearly. Smile

What I meant is: it's not proven that electrical activity of the brain produces consciousness. Even more: for scientific standards it's not plausible to believe that something just pops up out of nothing and for no reason. The important thing for me is: what often is told in schools or in the mass media is not true. They often tell you the message that the scientific point of view would be "it's proven that there is no consciousness/Ego/soul... and that death ends all, you're silly and childish if you believe anything else".
