How do you learn the vocabulary of the language you are learning ?

I'm using online-flashcards. There are some great free sites (like cobocards, don't know if it's also available in English?) and most of them also offer an iPhone app. I'm also using vocabulary software on my laptop. Furthermore, I'm watching a lot of BBC and CNN these days because I'm preparing for an economic exam ;)

I am learning at least 3-7 new vocabulary words per day. whenever I find a new vocabulary word in an article or anywhere I used to find the meaning of the word  from this online dictionary http://oald8.oxfordlearnersdictionaries.com/ ...  and then I will write that word in my vocabulary notebook(without the meaning) and after that I will start to feel that word in different different sentence for few mins and even next day I will start to memorize the words that I had written in the previous day. To be frank it was little difficult to follow the above procedure but today it is very comfortable for me to learn new words.

I'm reading a lot.

It is useless (well, almost) to learn words without context.  You should learn phrases instead. I like a phrase:"Don't study language. Use it." Do what you like. I like reading, so it is very useful. And text chats. After 2 hrs of chatting the language barrier disappiers. I'm lucky to have friendly partners in every language I'm learning.

i think speakig can help us to learn usefull words for us ..when you talk to the others and you force yourself to speak...so you need enough words to continue. then you will have many words on your mind but not in english (in your own language).then you will try to find the same meanings for them in english.i think it will be really useful .

1.By reading.

2.Writing down the new vocabulary as " phrases".

3.Connect the new vocabulary to its meaning by having a picture or a well-known example of it in my mind , and trying to avoid connecting it to its translation in my mother tongue.

4.By practice them " Use it, or you will lose it! "
