Why did so many great writers commit suicide or go insane?

Good point each of you. Being a great writer seems like a tragic job. They need some mandatory health insurance!
Well, there are more great writers who died of natural causes than the ones who took their own life. Being a great writer seems like a great job to me. :p Depression can happen to anyone, including (or perhaps especially) great people.
most great writers have their unique or particular views which shock the world. so maybe they are more likely to have some distinctive experiences?
