That's one of the reason why I like Chess and I was wondering if there are any other sports that allow both genders to compete equally since the most popular sports in the world are usually not the case.
Squash is normally mixed, except at the highest levels (if you're just playing normally, you won't have to worry about it).
Fencing compeitions are normally seperated by genders, but this doesn't usually happen in training.
Sport or game?
marathon - but mostly man and woman are separated but I guess woman can compete with man fairly in this sport.
I apologize about being a redneck.
Hi Steve H, I deliberately omitted the word "can" in the question and also It was meant to be about sports played in a professional level which I forgot to emphatise, as every sport can be played casually in a mixed way, how many of them are really mixed in a serious competition? that was what I was aiming for.
The International Olympic Committee (through ARISF) recognises both chess and bridge as bona fide sports, and SportAccord, the international sports federation association, recognises five non-physical sports, although limits the amount of mind games which can be admitted as sports.
Although I agree it can be arguably a sport or not.
Well technically the Olympics are "Olympic Games", so the events don't have to be sports. But the definition if "sport" has to do with "physical activity"
Hi SteveMP, until we have 1 and only 1 definition of sport this will be forever argubely, according to this site http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mind_sport chess is a sport, but if it's not so be it!
