SlowGerman

This site has excellent podcast about various things. Learn the alphabet or train your listening skills that what “Slow German” is for. It also has some material for learning that comes with the podcasts but these aren’t for free

http://www.slowgerman.com/

Graf Gutfreund:

Material on different topics like German grammar, vocabulary … worth a look!

http://www.graf-gutfreund.at/

Languages Online:

Looking for some fun learning? This side will be to your liking. This side has also other languages to your disposal.

http://www.education.vic.gov.au/languagesonline/german/german.htm

Lingolia:

Very good grammar overview with examples and some exercises however it might not be the best site for beginners that want to learn German. What this site is very good for is looking up certain topics.

http://deutsch.lingolia.com/en/

Verbformen:

Generator for verbs given in the “Infintiv” it generates all the conjugated forms. But be aware if the generation doesn’t work correctly, you might get a wrong result.

http://www.verbformen.de

Duden:

If you learn German you will notice that German words can be difficult, be it conjugation, declination, or synonyms (yes we have a lot of them!) it is a good idea to have a look into the “Duden” the reference book (dictionary) for today’s German. They also have a database where you can search for words. You will find lots of information about use, synonyms, conjugation as well as declination.

http://www.duden.de/

Pons:

Another dictionary for vocabulary is Pons. What some people don’t know however is that pons has some tools like a vocabulary trainer http://trainer.pons.com/ (you’ll need to register for full excess) , text translation http://en.pons.com/text-translation and a visual dictionary http://bildwoerterbuch.pons.com/en/home next to the normal one.

http://en.pons.com

Forvo:

Also many dictionaries allow you to play the words and listen to it Forvo is special as people around the world work together to put together a database for many languages where you can listen to native speakers. (Most of the time)

http://www.forvo.com/

Anki:

Everyone has their own way to learn vocabulary. If you like learning with flash cars you should have a look at Anki. It is free highly customisable! And there are dozens of card decks available to download, ready to go. (Also I suggest making your own always with examples coming along with it!

You can add links to Anki easily so what I do for example is linking the word I learn to Forvo. If the words exist I can quickly click on it to listen to it when needed. To do so it should look similar to this:

“<a href=" http://www.forvo.com/search-de/{{German}}/" style="color: black; text-decoration:none">{{German}}</a>”

{{German}} is marks the input field for your German word that you learn.

Have you tried my videos: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC2XoO1HBizGfvZR01kK_VJQ/playlists
Just on top you can use them for example while making a walk or something.
Feel free to tell me if you need a special topic! I shall talk about!!
I think it's the best method, cause me myself I learned that way and found it much easier than I've ever learned before.

Here is another update on material for your own use or together with your language exchange buddy.

On the website of the Goethe institute you will find much information on the qualification test in German language you can do there. But they also do have a some materials for these tests online on the topics listening and reading comprehensive. It is certainly worth to check out. Before you do that it is a wise to find out what level you are at.

What levels are there…

There are many good blogs about people visiting or living in Germany that were not born in Germany ...and are able to see and notice what Germans don't. I found this one quite solid so I wanted to share it with you:
