I don't know about pimsleur but I found the Michel Thomas method very helpful.

Learning with the help of human beings.

Remember: the teacher should be evaluated in relation of what he

teaches you, not in relation of how vast is his knowledge!

Watching movies with subtitles BUT as a work:

a) stopping and trying to repeat sentences

at least 50 times during a 2 hours movie.

b) occasionaly switch off the audio and read the subtitles.

Obviously your choice of movies should be planned considering how much

dialogue is there. Crime movies might be easy and fun, and Woody Allen's movies might be difficult and maybe fun.

Pimsleur is very usuful for the begginer but bear in mind, do it once is not enough. You need to repeat the whole course many times. I am using this method with Spanish. I repeated it twise and I want to repeat it at least seven times. After that you could find some series or movies with text and also repeat the episodes or movies many times. This is may way.
