What would you recommend reading about to someone starting out learning Japanese history?

During the reign of the Meiji dynasty, Japan changed from a backward and an isolated country to a world power. It's my favorite moment in our history.

As for books, I suggest textbooks - you can easily find them online. ヾ(。◕ฺ∀◕ฺ)ノ
