I recommend anime movies, such as: Mononoke Hime(1997), Spirited Away (2001), Howl's Moving Castle (2004) or any other movie from Ghibli Studio.

Most of the Ghibli studio movies are great

I agree with previous recommendations for anything from Studio Ghibli. There are also some pretty addictive dramas like Hana Yori Dango, Gokusen, and Nobuta wo Produce. :D They're all coming of age type dramas, so they're less intense.
