Spanglish Club PART(E) 2

We're reading The Alchemist and discussing it and you are welcome to join us at any time.

Estamos leyendo El Alquimista y debatiendolo y te invitamos a unirte a nosotros en cualquier momento.

This new discussion is for Part 2 of The Alchemist.

This project is for both English speakers wanting to learn Spanish and for Spanish speakers wanting to learn English.

In English:

Some italki friends and I are reading "The Alquimist and discussing it here. We'll be reading it one tiny chapter at a time. It's a good book because the language is easy and the chapters are very short and millions of people have read it all over the world. Because it's popular, at the very least, it's a good book to be familiar with even if you aren't particularly into the subject.

My friends will be reading the book in English and Spanish. I got the book in English as well so that I could read a chapter in English after I read it in Spanish so as to make sure I really understood it.

We'll be talking about the book in both English and Spanish, making the discussion into a kind of "Spanglish". We'll write in either English or Spanish anywhere even within a single post, whichever language we feel comfortable in or want to practice.

The only rule is that you read WITH US one chapter at a time and not talk about any chapters to come. This is going to be a slow and long process and we don't want anyone to spoil the end for us. We'll be discussing the book as a whole at THE END of the discussion so you can wait until then to join us if you've already read it.

Hope you will join us for our little italki Spanglish book club!

Hola Wendi:  No te procupes aqui todos estamos aprendiendo y solo intentandolo y cometiendo errores   aprenderemos  y como estamos  aqui para ayudarnos voy a intentar editar tu traduccion :)                                                    Hi Wendi:  Don't worry, all here we are learning and just trying  and making mistakes we will learn; so we are here to help each other I'm going to try to edit your traslation (you can also correct my English if you want)                     A pesar de que pienso que Santiago terminara siendo un pastor, estoy muy frustrada con la idea de que el no va a tratar (you can also say intentar)de encontrar su tesoro ,para volver a sus  ovejas, el no esta intentandolo ahora, no me gusta; el necesita intentar un poco...                                                    I hope this help a little :)

Hi . Thank you Dorothy for your hard work.

Thank you Isabel, I have had almost the same doubts about words, and you solved them to me.

I am comparing the versions that Dorothy give us, in English and Spanish, and I think that they are not well traslate. I don´t know why.

For example, the phrase "And he wanted to live as he did the lessons of his past and his dreams of the future", in the Spanish version is: " Y él estaba procurando vivirlo con las lecciones de su pasado y los sueños de su futuro". Not understand neither one nor the other

I think that the Spanish translation is not very fortunate, but the question is: Is this English version correct?. Someone could traslate it well  to Spanish, or eventually, give a better version in English to me?. Thanks.

I agree that we shouldn't leave nobody back and we are all important for this group. If Isabel need one week by chapter then I believe that we should give it to her.

Dorothy I believe that to make a group from another genre is very well and my personal opinion is that the philosophy of this book don't hooked me...

Hola gente!
Primero de todo. Bienvenida Tina!! :)

Hi people!

The first of all... Welcome Tina!!

Dorothy I believe that your reflexion is very intelligent and also I believe that to think in your family before than in you, says much of the person is you. A good person, I think.
That if, Now that your responsibilities have ended I would encourage to you to will go. Around here, is said to be better to regret what you've done that to regret what you never did.

Wendi, also I agree with you. I believe that because the book is more philosophical end will be that the treasure is a teaching pastor. As a story you learn of a moraleja.
