Marmoulak or "the lizard" is one of the best Iranian comedy movies ever made. but that doesn't mean this movie is just for laugh as it deals with sensitive religious, political and social issues which as a result of that caused it to be banned in Iran.
despite many ironies, sarcasms and jokes in the movie which are difficult for non-Iranians to understand, I'm sure in general this movie would be enjoyable for world audience especially you Persian-learners who are to some extent familiar with Persian language and Iranian culture.

I liked this movie a lot. It was recommended to me by an Iranian friend. I am sure that I missed some references, but it if you pay attention, you can get the criticisms of the corrupt clergy and officials. The subtitles are very well done. A few mistakes, but better than 90% of Iranian movie subtitles.
Maybe it's not for every Western taste, but it was funny and sometimes touching. And I had a crush on Rana Azadvar :P
