I agree with Jack. Manchester is a cheap place to stay.

Thanks a lot, guys! I was thinking I'm going to work in Manchester.... It's very terrific! Doesn't it?

I'd say that Manchester, Sheffield and Leeds are the best cities in the UK for young people (and for me personally) - best nightlife, decent sized cities, always lots to do, half-decent transport infrastructure, lots of other young people, and they're not ridiculously expensive like London is. Cardiff and Bristol are both good cities as well with admittedly better weather.

Zoë - Unsure what you mean with 'somewhere cheap', but I'll assume it wasn't meant to be a hostile comment. Cities in the North of England aren't particularly cheap when compared to cities anywhere else in Britain. For example, the cost of living is about the same in Manchester as it is in Bristol. http://tinyurl.com/ex-man-bri

Meanwhile, the cost of living in London and the South East is higher than anywhere else, and the rent is often more than double. http://tinyurl.com/ex-man-lon

I believe London and Bournemouth are cities that are worth! :)

It depends on what you think is beautiful. If you like architecture, go to Bath. For beaches, somewhere on the coast in Cornwall. If you like tourist stuff like red phone boxes and famous buildings, try London. If you want to live somewhere cheap, go up North.
