What is the difference between fair and honest in this sentence:
Broker works for Seller must be honest with Buyer but responsible to Seller.
Broker works for Buyer must be fair with Seller but responsible to Buyer.
It is difficult to interpret words in a quasilegal context. They may have a special meaning here.
Suppose there are a big kid and a little kid, and someone gives the big kid a candy bar and tells him to share it.
If the big kid breaks it in half, he is being fair and honest.
If the big kid says "I am going to eat it all myself because nobody is watching and I am bigger and stronger than you," he is not being fair, but he is being honest (because he is telling the truth).
If the big kid says "I am going to eat it all myself because everyone knows that little kids will die if they eat a candy bar on a Wednesday," he is being neither fair nor honest.
