Portuguese Phrases

I want to learn how to say, "How do you say, '____,' in Portuguese?" and other phrases that will allow me to learn in a real setting. The plan is to learn basic conversational Portugeuse, practice that here at italki then travel to Brazil.

- What does ... mean? O que .... significa? ou O que significa ...?

- Não entendi, pode repetir? I didn't understand, can you repeat?

- Repete mais de vagar. Repeat it more slowly.

- Não sei falar português muito bem. I don't know how to speak Portuguese very well.

Hi Patrick.

Here in Brazil, we used to say the word "coisa" for everything that we forget or don't know how is named. "Coisa" is a little bit like stuff in English. Brazilian uses this word constantly in their day-to-day. For sure, you will hear "coisa" in Brazil a lot.

For instance:

Eu esqueci minhas coisas no carro. "I forgot my stuff in the car."

Eu não gostei dessa coisa. I don't enjoy it.

You are welcome. I will be glad to hear from you other doubts. I hope you reach your goals.

All the best to you.
