What do you do to understand movies? I can't understand as much as I study.
English is an easy language, at least compared to others, but remember that no one was born being fluent in it. I suggest that you choose a film or series that is easy to understand (Canadian actors speak very clearly, so Canadian series would be a good choice) and watch them first without subtitles, so that you are forced to pay attention to the film, and your attention isn't distracted by reading. You are probably not going to understand every single word, but this is not the aim of all this; just watch it and be happy if you recognize a word or phrase, and can figure out what the characters are saying. When watching the film for the second time, you can use English subtitles, so you will understand words you missed the previous time. I think it's a useful method.
If you can read conversational English, try watching the film with English subtitles. Every modern film should be available with subtitles.
It can be useful to watch a series such as 24 or Lost. The vocabulary will repeat throughout the series. It doesn't matter if you don't understand everything -- as long as you can follow the story.
