How is autistic treated in your country? And what do you think about autism?

There is a boy in my class and he is an autistic. He used to be treated badly by his classmates because he wasn't like us. But nobody couldn't understand what's wrong with that guy who was always alone. I can understand the fact that usually people don't like people who are not like they are, especially at school where, as a rule, someone must be an object of people's mockery. I suppose that most often these whipping-boys are autistics. Sometimes people cannot understand that they are not worse or better, they are just different. Very often these people can be very talanted because they are more thoughtfully than normal people. I can tell the same about him because he is very talanted in writing. His compositions are the best in our class and no one who thinks that is better than him can't write so amazing ones. The main problem I want to say is our education system which doesn't pay attention to these people. They are considered to be normal, like any other schoolchildren. But they are different and need special relation. I don't know how autistics are treated in another countries and what education system is there, but in Russian schools you learn how to survive in society. Here is no goal to release geniuses or just people with the hope on the good future. This system is based on the destruction of any potential students have.  And firstly it strikes to people who are not able to survive in society. Also I have a neighbour and her adopted daughter is autistic too. She always makes strange things: never look into the eyes, not oriented in space, completely adjective. However, she isn't treated in another way, more like she is a victim of her mum's ridicule. It is just that her mother doesn't know about her uniqueness and thinks that ridicule can save the situation. But she makes mistake doing it because she spoil her daughter's mind. Most autistics don't know that they are autistics and can't understand why they often have different relation than other children have. At last, I want to say that everyone is different and unique, but still there are people who are a little bit more unique. I would want that in Russia people will be more indulgent towards these people and education system will make up something special for them.

Hi Zoya! It's really sad to hear that the education system in your country does not have separate arrangements for children who are autistic :( They require a different approach towards their education and personal growth, and treating them as "normal" kids can be very damaging to them. In my country (Singapore), we do not just leave autistic and special-needs children in "normal" schools. It is almost always a requirement for them to go to special schools. We have many special schools that specialise in educating autistic and special-needs children. These schools are better equipped to help these children because the teachers are well-informed about the children's disorders, and are well-trained in catering to the children's needs. The children will also not suffer abuse from other "normal" children or teachers, which is something that happens very often if they were to go to a "normal" school instead. There are also many associations and organisations which help families with autistic/special-needs children. Parents can be educated about their children's disorders so that they can understand their children better and give more effective care as a parent. Counselling or therapy is also available to help parents or/and their children. I hope that in the near future, Russia will have a more effective way of helping autistic children in the education system! :)
