Using mnemonics to learn new foreign words

Hi everyone!
I'd like to ask you about using of mnemonics. Does anyone try this way of learning new words? How do you do that?
Also, I'd be interested if anyone share their experience, also if it is negative.

Thank you!

I don't know how to explain it to you.

I learn it with Chinese instructions

Some examples:

as-sid-uous

as-soci-ate

hi(gh)er-arch-y

I do this ALL THE TIME, but I never knew the name for it haha.

Its quite fun and effective for learning new words

How? Hmmm well thinking of some I managed to remember are

lograr - to get, obtain, acheive. I think of log as in a login that you use to gain entrance to say, an account. so you get/obtain entrance.

and

volver - to return, go back. I think of a reVOLVER gun, and how they have the barrels that circle around to return to the original position.

and

entender - to understand. I think of TENDER, and how its nice when someone understands you, thus it is a "tender" feeling.. haha

Im stupid i know :P

Angus, how many words you can learn at a time?

And you can get some information about mnemonics on Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mnemonic
