Iam glad you are going to go to Madrid, you are going to love it!I would recommend a big bus tour, it is a hop off and hop on bus and it will show you the main things too see it is quite good for a big city as madrid, otherwise you would spend a fortune in undergrounds and buses, have a look, but I would recommend to spend a couple of hours at el retiro, huge park in the city centre and walk through Gran via, to eat any place who looks local will be good, avoid subway, mcdonals etc...
