Although I am still seeking a Somali tutor to improve my fluency, I can provide a bit of information to the Somali side of the discussions.
Here is a break-down of some Somali conjugations:
I: Aniga
You: Adiga
He: Isaga
She: Iyada
We: Annaga
You (plural): Idinka
They: Iyaga
It can get pretty complicated beyond that because if you want to use the verb, "to be", you would have to conjugate not only the verb, but the pronoun that goes before it.
So let's do it then:
TO BE
I am: Aniga waxaan ahay
You are: Adiga waxaad tahay
He is: Isaga wuxuu yahay
She is: Iyada waxay tahay
We are: Annaga waxaan nahay
You (plural) are: Idinka waxaad tihiin
They are: Iyaga waxay yihiin
So, of course you'll have to add some nouns as they are not complete sentences. Most Somali speakers leave out the initial pronouns because the rest is conjugated according to its proper pronoun, so it's a bit redundant.
For example:
Waxaan ahay arday (I am a student)
Waxaad tahay wiil (You are a boy)
Wuxuu yahay macallin (He is a teacher)
Waxay tahay macallimad (She is a teacher)
........so on and so forth.......
There's a lot more conjugation involved, but I don't want to get in too deep right now. Those are the basics.
Mahadsanid! Let me know if you find a tutor! I'm looking for one, too. It's surprisingly hard, even in Minnesota, where I live.
