I'm not an expert myself, but I have found that if you treat language like a class assignment you can never really make progress. The best thing to do is watch movies/TV in Chinese, read a book that is close to your level, and of course make a friend willing to talk practice you. The point is that you have to have fun with it in order to remember and just study up on some grammer and vocab.

Learning Pinyin first.And then you could listen some chinese songs or watch chinese drama. The most important is speaking.You should talk to chinese as possible as you can.
