I don't think so. Despite its simple grammar, Indonesian is still an Austronesian language and in most of its vocabulary is still alien for English speakers. It takes in average two times more to learn it than it takes to learn French, Spanish or German. And Indonesian people also don't speak like your textbook what will be a little hard not to sound like an airport announcement or a newspaper article. I've learning it for two months and understand almost nothing.. 

Fravista, they can be similar, but there are weird things Indo has, like makan/memakan/dimakan/kemakan/makanan/makan-makan.
