Hello and "boa noite", Portuguese Warriors. Today I'll teach you about the Portuguese's rules. How you know, portuguese have a lot of useless things. But the today's useless thing is "Mas/Mais":
Here we go. In portuguese, we have two words that is a little similar, but they aren't. Mas e Mais have different meanings. "MAS" is for opposition, so, "mas" is like "but" or "however". "MAIS" is for addition, so, "mais" means "more".
For example:
Eu comprei esse bolo, MAS eu prefiro o bolo de chocolate.
I bought this cake, BUT I prefer chocolate cake.
Eu joguei pouco, eu quero jogar MAIS.
I played too few, I'd like to play MORE.
