Tutor v. Professional - What's the Difference?
italki has attempted to make a distinction between 'Tutors' and 'Professional Teachers'.
Professional Teachers are people who meet at least one of the following two criteria:
1) Taught professionally in a classroom (or extensively online)
2) Have a certificate in teaching (TEFL certificate, diploma in foreign language education, M.A. in education, etc).
If you don't meet the above criteria, you are probably a tutor.
Tutors may be current students. They are usually native speakers. They don't have formal classroom teaching experience, or certificates in eduation. Tutors are helpful, but not necessarily capable or experienced in professional teaching.
If you DON'T think you could help someone with questions about your language and explain language topics to them, you are probably not a tutor. You should probaly be a language partner.
If you've selected the wrong option in creating your teaching account, please contact TeacherHelp@italki.com to change your teaching type.
Do you agree with this distinction? How can we make this clearer?

I am agree with this but I would like to add one thing also that
A professional distributes his or her knowledge in a perticular area
and a tuter teachs, learns and shares new things also.
I have the certificate of qualification of middle Chinese language teacher, I got it last December, but I don't have the experiences in classroom language teaching yet. How should I be classified into?
"classroom language Teaching is neraly total different with private courses, especially online course."
I have the qulification and classroom teaching experience.,but after morethan one year's private online teaching, I have to say the above.

@Bobo, I'd say your education, shown by the certificate, means you should be a Professional Teacher.
