Hjälp med "jo"

Hej mina Svenska vänner!

I was practicing my Swedish on Duolingo today and saw a weird word that I'd never seen before. I'm hoping this is a nice easy question for you all!

The text said: "Förstår du inte?" "____, det gör jag". The instruction was to fill in the blanks, and the options were "Ja", "Nej" and "Jo".

So I get "Förstår due inte" means "Don't you understand". But when I assumed the correct answer would be "Ja, det gör jag". However, it marked it as wrong, and apparently the correct answer is "Jo, det gör jag".

SO! I'm trying to understand a few things:

• Is "Jo" slang for "Yes", kinda like we'd say "Yeah" in English?

• Is Duolingo right? Would it be incorrect to say "Ja" in this sentence?

Tack så mycket på din hjälp!

You can read a bit about it here:

It wouldn't be correct to say "Ja, det gör jag". in a response to that question.
