Why I am interested in Bangla

I have recently become quite interested in the Bengali language. One reason I have picked up this interest is simply because my girlfriend's mother speaks the language and I thought it would be nice to know. In addition, however, I am quite surprised at the lack of resources available for learning a language which ranks in the top 10 languages of the world in terms of total native speakers. With this in mind I would like to attain at least a proficient level of comprehension and use of the language and perhaps organize and share what I have learned to assist other English speakers learn the language in the future.
